I think we can safely say now that part of the world has entered into May 22nd, 2011 without incident that one of two things are true: 1) That either the Bible is inherently dangerous in how it appears to attract loons or 2) The Bible cannot be trusted as a fairly reliable source of information. Either way end of world prophecies will continue to be a source of great appeal.

People have attached a strong psychological impetus to suicide as though it is somehow a glorious way to die, largely because it is by one’s own intent. That is part of what feeds the perception that emotionally induced suicide is an act of cowardice. But, with the exception of altruistic intentions, mental illness and extreme suffering, suicide is an ultimately foolish act, many of the motivations for which fail to stand up to scrutiny.
