Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Hello Sam. I’m here to bring the carnage. This movie is long, so let’s get started.

Three words: SICKEST. MOVIE. EVER. Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) is over two and a half hours of deafening, bone-crushing, side-splitting, mind-numbing, laugh-out-loud, edge-of-your-seat, gorgeous pop corn entertainment that is sure to make a killing at the box office this season.

So Long, Peter Pan

Michael Jackson is gone. Finally. The only people who will truly mourn his death are the obnoxious mothers who kept sending him their sons as a ploy to extract money. The rest of us will celebrate his life with music. Now that his life has ended, we can immortalize him for what good is left of his great name.

Herd Logic

This group of happy campers has a rude awakening afoot. Literally.

Some people would like to think that I’m a relatively smart guy. I never really took such regards seriously as I always thought that there were many, many smarter people out there. However, the more I got involved with social debating on various issues, the more I became aware of an ubiquitous intellectual deficit that would seem to suggest that the phrase “common sense” may actually be an oxymoron.

At first, I thought the deficit was a reflection of the cognitive limitations of people in my immediate environment. But when I moved my discussions to the more public domain of the internet, I encountered the same rubbish online as I did offline. As it turns out, even on the internet, the proportion of smart vs. average remained exactly the same.

I now realise that when I perceive simple-mindedness in the folks I regularly interact with in the real world, it is not limited to my immediate geographic location. It seems that 80% of the entire human race is made from the same cognitive mold. They all have the same stupid ideas and do the same stupid things – it’s herd logic.

Do Black Men Prefer White Women?

In the film Obsessed (2009), a deranged white woman (played by Ali Larter) comes on rather quite strongly to a powerful executive (played by Idris Elba) who happens to be a black man. Thereafter, the entire movie becomes a setup for the ultimate cat fight between the white woman and the black man’s wife (played by Beyoncé Knowles).  While it is obvious that the film’s ludicrous plot is nothing more than a visualisation of the revenge fantasy of every black woman who has ever lost a lover to a white woman, it does beg the question: Do black men prefer white women? If so, why? I explore this, and a number of other intriguing details in this thought provoking piece on sex and racial politics.

The Evil God

Wayne Bent aka Michael Travesser, sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexual misconduct in yet another Seventh Day Adventist Christian cult.

The Michael Travesser cult in the New Mexico desert reminded me about the Biblical prophecy that we are in end times, that many will come claiming to be the Christ and that many will be deceived. So I got to the point of thinking: Why would God in all his wisdom, allow his own people to be deceived? I found this thought to be most troubling. In fact, I am now more certain than ever before that the general well being of mankind was never in God’s interest at all.

Star Trek (2009) Full Review

The Science Fiction hall of fame officially has another inductee. J.J. Abram’s re-imagining of Star Trek sets the bar so ridiculously high this season, that I feel bad for the other summer epics yet to come that are now hopelessly doomed to mediocrity. This is quite possibly the best film of 2009 and there are five very good reasons why I say this:

Atheism Exposed: Naturalism

“The domain of natural science is natural science, not metaphysics. The fields are logically incompatible.”

Naturalists are the strongest of all atheists. They believe that all things can be explained by natural laws and causality. They believe that nature is all that there is and therefore, natural science can be used to invalidate God’s existence. The obvious challenge with this position is that it presumes the domain of natural science extends to all other fields of knowledge. Not only does it make this imprecise leap of logic, but it also misconstrues the intention of Charles Darwin’s theory of Evolution with the intention of using it for something it was never designed. This is the fifth and final post in the series exposing the innate fallacies of atheism. Be forewarned; this one’s an epic.

Atheism Exposed: Skepticism

“Sometimes the truth is inexplicable – and that is the plain and simple truth.”

Consider this: If a dog really did eat your homework, how’re you going to prove it? You could examine the bowel movement of the animal. However, assuming your homework was written on paper, it would have already become an indistinguishable, finely digested mulch at that point. The teacher’s skepticism about your story is palpable though, largely because of their inability to prove it and the unlikelihood of its occurrence. Does your teacher’s doubt about your story prove that it isn’t true? No. Yet, this is how skeptics think. They believe that whatever can be doubted is not likely to be true. Skeptical Atheists love this technique for asserting the “likely” non existence of God. While that is true on some level, it’s easily the worst way to make any kind of assertive proof of anything.

Atheism Exposed: Pragmatism

“Godlessness it seems, is not without a sense of purpose.”

Apatheism (or Pragmatic Atheism) is perhaps the most popular agnostic concept. It is less concerned with arguments for or against the existence of any god and is more concerned with living life as though there wasn’t one. This indifference to the existence of or need for god is often bound in the concept that morality and theism are mutually exclusive. While that may be inherently true, pragmatic atheists often use this as justification for their  liberal lifestyles. Then some go as far as to attempt to redefine the status quo in the pursuit of ridding the world of its mythological entrapment. Either way, whether it is taking god out of schools or reducing the value of marriage, godlessness it seems, is not without a sense of purpose.
